About Me

I graduated in 1993 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and I graduated with my Master’s of Science and Reading Specialist Certification in 2000.  I also have a certification in Educational Leadership. My college career will end in December of 2015 when I anticipate graduating from the Ed.D. program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I insist on being called Dr. Louviere by everyone, including grandchildren, for one week. After that, I will answer to anything.

I have been in education for 22 years. My positions have been a classroom teacher for grades K-5th, state department of education coordinator, and university program director. Most of the schools I have worked in or with are struggling schools with a high minority and poverty rate.

Currently, I am an assistant principal in Vermilion Parish. This position provides me with day-to-day opportunities to help teachers cultivate their craft as they help their students extend their academic reach, the guide on the side.

I live in South Louisiana with my husband Mark. We have five children. He has three and I have two. We have eight grandchildren, the joys of my personal life. My two children are both in the field of education (the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree). Some of my most reflective conversations seem to be with them.

Often times I have conversations with teachers and after we depart, I keep thinking about what was said. I want to capture and extend those conversations to share with you through this blog. Please feel free to send me any topic of interest.

I hope you find this blog helpful, but mostly I hope it makes you think.
Reflective teachers are effective teachers!

Sonya Louviere
